Recall working Christmas at Denny's. Recall how many people would come in and eat on Christmas day. Now multiply that many people 10 fold and that's how many guests we had on our premises today. I'M NOT JOKING! EVERYONE CAME IN! ADULTS SKIPPED WORK! KIDS EVEN DITCHED SCHOOL TO COME IN! A FREAKIN' CLASS, CONSISTING OF THIRTY KIDS TOOK A FIELD TRIP, A MOTHER-FREAKIN' FIELD TRIP, TO A FREAKIN' DENNYS JUST SO THEY COULD WAIT THREE HOURS FOR FREE FOOD! A FREAKIN' SCHOOL! WHAT THE CRAP! WE NOT ONLY HAD A LITERAL LINE LOOPING AROUND THE BUILDING DISNEY-LAND STYLE BUT ALSO PEOPLE SCATTERED ALL OVER THE PARKING LOT SO YOU COULDN'T FIND ANYONE WHEN IT WAS THEIR TURN TO BE SEATED! A WOMAN FREAKIN' CHEWED OUT JOHN BECAUSE SHE WAS SKIPPED, BECAUSE SHE WAS SITTING IN HER CAR! SHE WANTED JOHN TO KNOCK ON EVERYONE'S CAR DOORS! THE LOBBY AND ENTRANCE WAY WAS SO FULL, I WAS WAITING FOR THE FIRE MARSHAL TO SHOW UP AND SHUT US DOWN!

What the heck!? Why do free grand slams, AND WHY A FIELD TRIP!!?! "NO CLASS TODAY CHILDREN, DENNY'S HAS FREE GRAND SLAMS TODAY!!!!!!!!" It is honestly really hard to imagine more people at Denny's than there normally is on Christmas.  You should make a comic of it... I can totally see John looking like that!!!! |

I'm just as completely baffled as you are. Seriously though, it actually wasn't as rage-inducing so much as just hilariously strange. Dude that's awesome. And kinda sad that people will put their children through hours of waiting just to eat a half-good breakfast when they could have been spending those hours playing with their kids at a park or something. Shows where we've gotten to in the world, lol.

I agree 100%! Scott was also telling me that the servers barely made anything..since it was free, people weren't really tipping. So sad. As I was saying last night on the phone, hopefully with the economy this way people will realize money can't buy everything. Hopefully the parks and zoo's will fill up with families and love. Well, most people were stiffing the servers and not leaving anything but when someone did tip they usually tipped generously. I know two of the servers made more than they usually would've on a weekend. I head a bunch of whining from everyone else, so I dunno how they all did.
We did get a lot of high school kids who didn't bring any money and just ordered a glass of water and the grand slam. Which was expected, it just baffles me when all these kids are showing up when they're supposed to be in school.

I remember wanting to kill anyone that came in that ordered the grand slam/water combo. That was a red flag that meant you weren't getting paid that night.

Just to make things more interesting, I just found out today that there's going to be a protest against Denny's tommorrow at 1 o' Clock PM. Why? Well, apparently a woman tooks her baby to a Denny's in another state and was breast feeding at her table. Stories differentiate depending on if it's coming from Denny's Corp. or the woman but I guess tables were complaining to management about the woman's breast feeding and left. So the manager on duty told the woman to either cover up or move to a more secluded table. (some news reports say that she was told to leave, so I have no idea) So in retaliation there's going to be a "nurse-in" tommorrow. Who knows how big this protest is gonna be but I have a feeling that tommorrow is gonna suck HARD. As for my personal views on the whole thing -- I personally don't really see anything wrong with breast feeding in public and that's just me but a lot of people do. And I can't tell what actually happened because the news media jacks everything up but I can perfectly understand why they asked her to cover up and I don't see any way how it's discrimination. I also don't really understand why the company's being targeted, when any other restaurant, or at least most every other restaurant, would have done the same thing.
