WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! The one MMO I actually considered paying money for. You can do ship missions and ground task forces on-world, as well as (maybe not the free one) design missions for other players to go on (sort of like a level editor basically). I'm getting it... I may convince Meli to get it too. ^^ www.startrekonline.com/

BTW: Here is a example tutorial screen of the editor. Looks pretty user friendly, but powerful. I hope it is useable by F2P people.

I was actually just about to post this since I know you've been interested in the game for awhile now. I'm gonna try it out, maybe we can form a fleet or something. Also, the game was removed from Steam and I dunno if they're just gonna add the free to play version or what but I'm just gonna use their downloader off the website.

Only gotten past the character creation and a little into the tutorial mission so far. Seems pretty cool, or at least I'm pretty impressed with the character creation. It gives a lot of options, a lot of races to pick from and if you click the advance tab you can mess around with body sizes, hair, muscular builds, clothing, etc. Can even customize your own race. The cash shop has more uniforms you can buy (every uniform from every star trek series, movies, etc.) and a couple more races like Klingons you have to purchase.

Yeah, starship combat in the game is kind of wacky at first. I've grown to enjoy it. Glad you like it though. I think it helps that it is in a Star Trek universe.
I got through the tutorial and I'm now exploring some unknown sector of space outside of Vulcan. Turns out some pirates have some outposts on abandoned mining asteroids? Some fighting, mostly exploring. One think I really like about the game is how deep it is. It's not just a "get gold, level up, skill up, continue". There are some pretty thoughtful things you have to conciser. Your crew NPCs for example is a fantastic addition/change to the normal MMO games. You get to promote them, choose your own away teams, assign them to parts of your ship to unlock their special abilities, I mean, come on dude! You have Space combat, AND ground combat!
I'll have to play some tomorrow and get some shots of my character. I really wish I could have gotten a nicer face on her, but oh well. Choose Vulcan (I know, typical), but she's a Tactical/Security class. Thought I'd mess around and give her a temper lol Yeah, I'll post shots tomorrow. Glad your enjoying the game. Meli even downloaded it and is trying it out. She's not too big on it right now cause it's a little much (she's not much of a gamer outside of a few choice ones), but I hope she likes it enough to play with us. ^_^

PS: Thought the tutorial was epic. Dunno why, maybe it's the trekkie inside me, but keeping to zap some Borgs was great fun.

My ship, USS Metaphysic: MY ship has hover seats... For extra cushiony goodness. Visiting Vulcan on a mission. My away team and I on T'Jem, ready to kick some Klingon butt.

Been trying different things.. the user made scenario thing is pretty neat. Although some of them are better than other, obviously. The top rated mission was pretty cool, it was like an old Star Trek episode.. during the mission your systems go down while fighting a huge fleet, the ship blows up and then suddenly a time loop occurs and you have to figure out what happened and how to save your ship. The daily mission thing is pretty neat as it makes it seem like there's always something special going on. I also find it neat how there's exploration missions, where you actually explore new worlds. Instead of just doing nothing but killing stuff. It goes well with the Star Trek setting. I found out you can also have crew (not just your officers) perform duties.. it works kinda like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. You send your crew members to perform a mission and then after a set amount of time they come back either succeeding and earning you a reward, failing, or even dying. Haven't tried PvP yet but I played some PvE.. Oh man, it was so chaotic. I was expecting something small scale like the tutorial battle with the borg cubes but once that screen loaded it was FULL of icons. I swear there must've been 50+ enemy ships. There was also some dude rambling with his voice chat.. it was pretty funny. Some more screens: Oh yeah, I got a new StarshipAnother angleEpic PvE 1Epic PvE 2Epic PvE 3Was just minding my own buisness, walking through the starbase when I come across this sceneGoes on for awhile tooThe Borg are the most annoying enemies in the game and this image spells out why. At my current ability, I really can't take them on

It would seem you played the game a LOT more than I have. I don't even know how to earn moneys! I have gone on a few missions here and there, but nothing too interesting. I'll have to call you next week about it. Looks like there is a lot more to the game than what I've been playing. How do you access PvE or the custom made missions? Was there a rave going on in those scenes? Looks awesome lol And nice ship. Looks a little like the Enterprise chassis, but a little different.

There's three different types of money. Energy Credits you earn by selling items either through the replicator in your inventory window or selling items through shops. You sometimes earn Energy Credits through missions too.. it's the basic form of economy and is used to purchase basic goods. Latinum you earn by gambling at shady Ferengi establishments. Latinum can be used to purchase special items. Then there's Dilithium, where you earn by doing duty offer assignments and exploration-type quests. Dilithium is used to purchase top-class equipment and starships. You can also exchange Dilithium for Cryptic Points (real money) using the game's exchange market system. So if you put a lot of time into the game, you actually don't have to pay a cent to unlock all of the paid for content.
If you click the Starfleet icon (Hail Starfleet) you can pick missions and what have you.. both PvP and PvE missions are on there, as well as the main story episodes and any sidequests you've come across. If you click Available and then Community Authored, that's where the user made missions are. And like any other MMO, you have to progress through the game to unlock more features or missions.. most of the stuff I explained are actually part of tutorial quests.

Thanks, yeah, I knew about Dilithium, but not really how to earn anything else. I wish I had time to play games in general lately, let alone this one. Can't wait for some free time Thanks for the explanation. You did a better job explaining it in a paragraph than a couple different sites combined.

First of all, the game is on Steam now. (not that it matters if you download it already lol) Second, there's a 2-year anniversary event going on right now. Earth spacedock is semi-decorated to celebrate and you can do some special missions. One of them you test run an Odyssey-class starship and once you complete the mission they give you the starship FOR FREE! It's an absolute monster of a ship too.. unfortunately you can't permanently pilot it until you're level 50 but the mission is definitely worth it. There's also a mission involving Q. Mission's bland but it's easy to do.. and Q is always awesome. forums.startrekonline.com/announcement.php?f=226&a=10
