If they did half the job I did, it would likely have cost at least 30 dollars more (if you figure a couple bucks an hour). If I worked for 6 hours, at 5 dollars an hour, I would make 180 dollars (6 factions). That's scary...

So, today marks my 15th game of SC:TBG, and thus the verdict:
Best board game ever. Seriously the amount of love I have for this game is crazy. Every kid that plays it absolutely loves it (one of them is making a star wars version of it). I've played each race and all factions (I finally got to play as the Queen of Blades for the first time yesterday), and seen each race (maybe not each faction) win at least once.
The combat is fun, the end game is intense (this is actually due to the fact that just because you have a bigger army doesn't mean you've won), and the amount of variety is insane. With 6 different factions, 3 different races, 16 different planets while only having 2 planets per player, and variable set up of the board, with 16+ different kinds of units per race, the game has extreme replay value.
It's easily become my favorite board game (now second to Battletech).
Also, I am pleased with the cost of the game. Some people may complain that I paid $100 for it, but given the fact that the average board game costs $30-50, and is only played about 1/10th the time, I think it's a steal. I have Axis and Allies (which is a WWII super-risk style game) that I got for 30 bucks, and I've only played about 7 times. It takes just as long, but it's already wearing it's luster. SC has been played 15 times, and only seems to get better with each play. One of my kids made the statement of "every time I play this game I learn something new or new ways to do things", which is why I love it. It contains a lot of what I love about the PC game, only on the table, and adds more things that I wouldn't have thought about before. Awesome game. I cannot wait to play it with you guys down there.

Yeah, it was apparently a promo-only expansion at Bliz-con 08' I think, which means it is more of a collectors item than a real expansion. However, the planet it contains has only one nav route, so basically it's impossible to invade and easy to defend (as single nav routes cannot happen in any other situation). But yeah, it is literally a planet, that's it. A small planet at that.
I have thought about making a conversion of the game into SCII (or at least with SCII units/upgrades), but it would be nearly impossible, as it would require hours upon hours of time to convert (mostly taking screens of the units, as well as balance issues that would have to be converted to the board). However, if I had some good screens of each unit in the game, it would make it pretty do-able.

So, today marks 2 major occasions. First, Lucy's 8th month birthday. Wow... It's scary. She's actually starting to crawl, and it's creepy to realize how old she is... Makes me want another baby though... ^^;; Second, I have (just today) logged a total of over 50 hours of SC: The board game. The largest time I've spent on any board game in recent years (not including the hours upon hours of Battletech I played as a kid). While 50 hours doesn't sound like a lot, that is 21 games. Sadly, I still feel like I have hardly touched the game, as every game really does offer a new experience and situation. One thing I like a lot more about the board game version than the PC one is that it is much less predictable in that you almost never have the same starting situations from game to game, so your build is always being modified according to your situations.

BTW: I track all of my plays and log all my hours on boardgamegeek.com. This is the only way I know these things, lol.
