Ok, I just found out you can play against the computer while using the beta. Only Very Easy difficulty has been released so far but it'll give you a chance to play around and practice. HOW TO DO THIS:
After you logged in, in the main menu, there is a create custom game button. Click that, from the Game Type pull down choose "Melee" and then pick a map. You should probably pick a 2 player map. Once the map (some of them you have to download) is chosen, click the Add AI button and start the game!

Try out the AI you mean? It sucks because the AI is SO freaking easy. I can't even see new players losing to it but at least it'll let you play around.
Never actually played online with people until now. Played five games.. and won four of them. Dunno how because I suck. But what I usually end up doing is building a few Zealots and then massing Stalkers and Immortals. Stalkers are good against some of the smaller units and Immortals kick so much butt when fighting the bigger ground units. What I suck at, is fighting air. Stalkers actually aren't that great at it. You pretty much have to have Stargates and build air yourself to counter it, it seems. The one game that I lost at, the dude was rushing out Brood Lords (the Guardians of SC2 pretty much) and I was building Stalkers to counter it, thinking that they were exactly like Dragoons and that Dragoons can own pretty much anything that flies. God I was so wrong. What was awesome was that my Immortals were completely chewing up his base since he had few ground forces. I probably would've won if I had just one air unit to destroy those Brood Lords.

man that sucks. Yeah, I really enjoyed playing those Immortals! The "scouts" of SCIII were pretty nice too.
I really like how interesting the game is now though. It really seemed to have heavy thought on balance, while making each race completely distinct. It really seems to be working well. can't wait to play with you guys though!

Yeah, they're really trying to make it as balanced as possible. Attempting to make it live up to the original, I suppose which a lot of people considered to be really balanced. While there's still some issues and some decisions I disagree with, such as making the game require Internet Connection to play even the Single Player Campaign, I'm really loving the game and think it's some of the best work Blizzard's done. Those looking for complete innovation will probably be disappointed though.
BTW, I got my hands on a second Beta Key. If one of you guys wanna play online with me, that'd be awesome.
EDIT: LOLWUT. I have four beta keys now. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH ALL OF THEM

How the heck are you getting these keys? lol.
Yeah, I mean, I don't really expect much from it, but like I said earlier, it still doesn't feel all that "new" as far as the overall appearance. I think a lot of that has to do with my crappy computer though.

Just found a mod that adds more difficult AI and supposedly works with multiplayer! It's really smart too.. I've only managed to beat it while playing as Protoss. I just played 4v4 (myself & 3 AI) on Big Game Hunters. OMG UNITS FREAKING EVERYWHERE HOLY CRAP I'M GETTING RAPED

Beta phase 2 is supposed to be starting sometime soon.. but retail release is only like 2-3 weeks away so I guess it's not going to be running for very long. I've actually been practicing my Terran and Zerg in the mean time.
