We saw Hellyboy II yesterday, which made me want to watch Pan's Labyrinth again, lol. It was cool though, the set and production design was fantastic and very creative. It was only of the most visually appealing movies I've ever seen. You don't need tons of pumped out CG animation to make a movie look great.
The plot/characters and setting were cool as well. Good stuff.
The Mummy 3 was another one that I was excited about (much like the X-Files 2), but I was pretty disappointed. It felt very force fed, and not very deep. The mummy in it was just a mean old man who wanted to rule the world. There wasn't much reason or depth behind it. The characters were fairly 2D, and the replacement actress for Eve was freaking awful. The over all movie was pretty good, but a big let down to Mummy fans.
To the Center of the Earth was yet another movie we saw recently. One of the best adventure movies in a while. National Treasure 2 was a bit let down, and nothing else could compete with the new Indie movie, but along came this one. Although it is an adaptation of sort from the book, it puts a twist on it, and follows a friend of a Vernian (someone who believes Jules Verne's books were based in truth) who ends up falling into the center of the earth were dinos and other beings live in a alien-like world. Great movie!
We just rented Stargate: Continuum, which was a really neat and well done movie that followed (and seemed to be a kind of conclusion to the SG-1 series). If you like the Stargate movies and series, and freaking tripped out time travel theories, than rent this movie.
We also rented Starship Troopers 3. I know, I said the same thing. "WHAT!?", but it was FAR better then the 2nd, and on par with the first movie. It had an awesome plot, great characters, and kept up with the first movies great humor, cheesiness and guts. One of the better Sci-fi movies to come out in a while. At least worth the rent.
