Just posting a prayer for Jay as he's going through a rough time with all the things that has been going on. We hope you have a quick recovery and you are of great concern to Melissa and I. We both are praying for you and we hope to see you back to a healthy state soon. We hope that everything goes smooth and that they find exactly what is wrong so they can put an end to all of this. May the Lord see you through Jay.

Thank you. I was doing OK for awhile.. my blood sugars would always be in the 110-70 range. This morning I woke up with a killer headache and found out that my blood sugar was 55. Interestingly enough, I would ALWAYS have trouble waking up and getting to work on Wednesday. Like I would be several hours late and then the next day would always be when I sleep/pass out for 24+ hours , so I wonder if my blood sugars are going to drop like crazy tonight.

It wasn't a huge problem, I could still function so I just got something to eat and a hour or so later it went back up. It's different for different people but I didn't have any trouble functioning even in the 30s, where as some people will actually pass out in the 40s or low 50s. Just all depends. Luckily, the lowest I've gone since being out of the hospital (that I know of) is 51. Which happened when I set my alarm wrong and slept for like 8 hours without eating. Which actually isn't bad.
Anyway, I'm supposed to see Dr. Garcia, my endocrinologist on the 20th. Maybe she'll have the test results back but I'm not expecting much, if anything at all.

I'm glad your fortunate enough to be able to function normally at such a low level. It sounds like you have it under control though, although it sounds like if you hadn't woke up after 8 hours, you could have just felt weak and continued sleeping through even longer. That may have been what was happening, that you just need to eat in the middle of the night or something, rather than always during the day. Cause it sounds like it was always happening around the night time or morning.
Yeah, I doubt they'll come up with anything new. If anything, you can learn to live with it and keep it under control, although it would be nice to have it taken care of so you don't have to worry about it.

Well, I wonder if I just passed out while sleeping. (yes, apparently you can do that) But yeah, you're right about it happening at night/early morning. Actually, when my Dr. discharged me from the hospital she pretty much said that she wasn't worried about me during the daytime but when I sleep, for 8 hours for example, I'll be sleeping the whole time without eating. So what I have to do is sleep for 4 hours, wake up, check my blood sugar, get something to eat and then go back to bed. If I don't (and there's times where I haven't because I'm an idiot) it usually drops. I checked my blood sugar last night and for some odd reason I thought it was over 110 so I didn't eat anything and when I woke up 4 hours later, I knew right away that my blood sugar was low because I was really shaky. I checked again and it was 49. Confused at how fast my blood sugar dropped, I checked my meter's memory and the reading I did 4 hours prior was actually 66. lol

whoa!!!! 66 is low enough as it is! Good thing it has a memory though. You better keep up on your eating in the middle of the night. It would be really bad if you went into some kind of coma and no one even knew. O.o I apparently have to keep up on my pulse rate now. I didn't know this, but my beta blocker lowers my pulse significantly. My pulse was 54 bpm the other day I want Meli to take it when I'm asleep... Well, I hope you're able to keep up on this issue, and you better be taking good care of yourself.

Yeah, apparently quite a few (all?) beta blockers actually lower your heart rate. At least mine does the same thing. Kinda weird that they didn't tell you, but then again they didn't tell me a lot of the side effects either. They just gave it to me in the hospital and said "HERE, TAKE THIS!!"
Well, I saw my Endocrinologist yesterday. Results came back from my test.. we now know for a fact that I do have an insulinoma. I can't remember if I explained what that is, but basically there's these specific pancreatic cells that produce insulin, called beta cells I think?. An insulinoma is a functioning tumor consisting only of these insulin producing cells. What I mean by functioning is that this tumor is fully capable of producing insulin and will do so at completely random times, independently from the normal digestion process - therefore dropping my blood sugar. There have been a few cases of malignant insulinomas but thankfully they're almost always benign. Now, unfortunately insulinomas are REALLY REALLY small. We're talking like millimeters. Which is why they're having such a hard time finding it. This test they did confirmed that I had an insulinoma and now they have a general idea where it's located on the pancreas but it's not precise enough to do surgery. Soooooooooooo.. the plan is to let it grow and in the future I'll do another CT scan that will hopefully pick it up and then undergo surgery to remove it. However, because it's growing my blood sugar is going to start dropping a lot faster and a lot more frequently. In fact, it seems like it's already starting.

Scary! Although, I can convince myself that my heart rate is dropping by the second, but it will actually remain the same. It could just be the fact that you're now a bit paranoid. Although, it could also very well be true.. I just pray it's not for now ^_~
Yeah, I put myself on half dose. My doc wants me on at least 25mg. a day, but I cut them in half and take 12.5 a day, which seems to keep my heart rate normal, while helping my problem.
Well, I hope they are able to preform surgery asap, although I hope they do it at a time when I can come down there for it. We continue to pray for you. I'll try calling you tomorrow as well.

Ok Mr. Jay...first I am going to speak very sternly to you! When you are at work you are NEVER too busy to not go take your blood sugar and deal with it. Your health is way too important. It is faster to take your level and eat something than be taken by ambulance to ER. Also, you could die if your sugar goes too low and it will mess up other orgins. So, be very good about taking sugar. I love you, we all love you and you mean so much to us and you can't ignore this. Be mature, be responsible and do what you are supposed to do. I know what it's like to not want anything wrong with you; to ignore it or want it to go away and pretend like the world is fine and you are perfect. I would love to hold you and make this all go away. Just like Josh and Justin and even Scott and Mel. Now I'm crying as usual, lol. You all are too d**n young to be dealing with this crap and I am honestly mad at the universe that all of you kids (young men) are dealing with health issues that are all potentially life threatening and not just going out there and having the time of your life. You need to take care of yourself but remember to have fun too. You can't have fun if you don't take care of this Jay. Please do what you are suppose to do. Yes, you need to make adjustment, but coma and death is a much worse adjustment. Ok done yelling, lol. Huge hugs to all of you reading this-my kids, my family. I love you all so very much. You all are so very special and the way you have stuck together says so very much about the wonderful people you all are. I'm getting over mushy. Jay, you are in my prayers and know I am here, we all are here for you all of the time! Josh, Justin, Scott, Mel, Jay, John-I love you.

Chris has been a rock for Scott and for me and to be honest I couldn't have gotten thru all this without his support, so thank you Chris. Crap, we are still not thru it. Things will be fine and we have each other. I love you all

Just keeping everyone up to date. I have a CT scan scheduled for January 7th. I'm guessing (??) if they find something I'm supposed to receive a call but I am supposed to see Dr. Garcia a couple of weeks after that. Blood sugar-wise, it's changed quite a lot.. it was getting worse as far as just how frequent my blood sugar was dropping but the way it was dropping was pretty predictable. Now a days I drop much less frequently and actually, I've had plenty of high readings (150-170, although I thought it was kinda odd that it was 170 four hours after eating..?) but that actually doesn't seem to be anything to be concerned about.
But I had a pretty bad episode yesterday. It's kinda hard to explain but from what I can gather I was cashing somebody out at work and in the middle of doing a customer's credit card transaction my blood sugar dropped and it's sorta like I forgot what I was doing. The customer was asking for his ticket or something.. but what he was talking about was his credit card receipt but because my memory was more-or-less wiped clean I had no idea what to do. Someone had to help me (and I don't even know who!) because I was too stupified to figure out what's going on. I checked my blood sugar and it wasn't that low though.. it was like 44 or something? I'll sometimes have symptomns at that level but not loss of brain function like that. I think what happened was my blood sugar dropped really freaking fast, which can jack you up. What really got me though, is that it was 44 TWO HOURS AFTER EATING. I'd hate to think what would've happened if I didn't eat anything at the time.
