I am currently working on a campaign system for Battleforce, which is more or less a MUCH quicker version of Battletech. Think Heroscape, only a few levels higher. On a scale of detail/game weight, Battleforce is a 6, where Btech is a 10, and Heroscape is a 2.
ANYWAY, I am putting together a very large scale campaign for players who are interested. I mostly had the idea for the boys at work, but I also will be putting together one for you guys down there.
Here is how it will work. Battleforce is a massive conversion of Btech, where mechs can be destroyed in 1 or 2 turns, and things move very quickly. It is meant to be a strategic scale of the otherwise tactical game.
The players will be part of a Merc unit who has been hired by house Davion (Federated Suns) during the Forth Succession War. They are contracted specifically to defend planet hot-spots around the Combine March, which the Draconis Combine will be relentlessly attacking.
The story/background is that the Merc leader who put together the unit with his bare hands has died, and left no one in charge. You (the player) are the few that stayed to keep the unit alive, while most of the other pilots looked to other opportunities. The unit will begin as a small group of 4 mechs and a few techs. The players must then manage their merc unit in all aspects. Economic, repair, pilots, mechs, weapons, and the like. Pilots must be paid, food must be supplied, mechs must be kept in repair, while the techs that repair them are paid as well.
I (the GM) will monitor all of these assets for the players, but keep the players aware, and let them make choices based on the money they have.
Each mission will bring new challenges, more money and more loyalty to different houses.
I doubt our campaigns will last more than a few missions in Tucson, so I will make a very interesting, fast passed version for everyone, so they can have the mechs they want with the pilots they want within 3 or 4 missions. I hope it sounds fun!! (BTW, in Tucson, we'll be playing on paper mats, rather than 3d terrain, which sucks, but I can only bring so much.... -_-
