Hoping one of you computer geeks can help me, lol. Ever since we moved to the apt I have been having problems getting on-line and staying on-line. I am wireless and I even moved the router on top of my computer so I know distance isn't the issue. I often repair my whatchamacallit, reset the router and modem, unplug EVERYTHING from the wall for a few min to reset, etc, etc. Anyway I was having major bad word issues the other day and it dawned on me that since we moved here I suddenly have Linksys, which is my router, DLink, Gemini, and Spike as my available networks. Where did these others come from and how do I get rid of them? Could their mysterious appearance be causing me to make up bad words? Could others be stealing my Linksys? I like my Linksys and I don't want any criminal to steal MY wireless waves, they are mine, MINE I say! I don't mind nice ghosts hanging out and playing with toys, but they need to leave my puter alone. Help!!!!! Thank you ;D

Not sure what you mean by bad word issues. Like your computer will suddenly type out profanity or something? Anyway, since you're living in an apartment or whatever now you're going to be broadcasting those wireless signals to all the neighbors in the area. Likewise, you're picking up your neighbor's signals too. That's what those DLink, Gemini and Spike networks are. In which case, someone probably got into your computer and is messing with you. What ya gotta do is encrypt your signal/put a password on it. So when ever a neighbor tries to log on to your network he'll get a pop up saying "HALT! WHAT'S THE PASSWORD?" Because most likely you don't have any encryption and just anyone could connect to your network and use it to go online or whatever.
So basically, you have to change your wireless router's settings. It should have come with a manual that explains how to do it. I'd change the Username/Password for the router's login screen while you're at it, too. If you leave it at default then someone could change your router's settings.

Waspman, are you Jay? Bad word meant I say bad words when this thing decides to take a sudden trip to my neighbors. Justin's puter doesn't do it, just mine. I kinda understood what you meant by encryption but there is no way I still have a manual. I am assuming I can find one on-line. How do I get rid of these other things though? My wireless starts up with my puter starts so will I need to log in every time my puter starts? If that's the case I hope there a pop up thing cuz it will go out the window if I have to look for it. If you are Jay, maybe you can come over sometime and help me and pick up your sock. I didn't know about this log in thing, so thank you, I will look into this. Thank you ;D

Generally a static IP address works for most routers. Open your browser, and type in this URL: 192.168.1.1
Generally this will open up your routers system menus. You can then change passwords and such through that. It will likely have a menu/button specifically labeled "password" or "encryption". Once you change the password, only people who know the password will be able to use your wireless signals. Justin will also have to enter the password on his computer, as his computer will also be blocked by this change.
Second, being able to see other peoples signals will not effect your computer, and will most likely not mess with your connection. The only thing I can think of is that other people are messing with your signal, but that will change once you have a password set on your router.
Lastly, the actual problems with getting online. I doubt it's the linksys doing anything. I'm sure you've been through a few routers/internet connections through the computers life. It might be totally confused and wacked out, for which I have no solution. Reformatting if possible will probably cure it though. Your internet connections might be also be out of wack. I would check to see exactly what your computer is doing when it is not able to connect. Open your Internet Connections from your Control Panel, and see if it's trying to connect at all, or if it's connecting to another person, or if it's trying to connect and not able to.
Hope that helps.

Ok, Justin's puter was acting up and was switching between Linksys and all the others around here. The signal was low, blah blah. I know you said you think the issue is with my puter alone, but it's not. Anyway, can we set a time for us to do whatever it was to set the passwords? Should we do three way call so Justin can be there too? BTW, who is waspman? Love you guys and miss you.

Weird, but I still think it is probably your computer. However, if it's a signal issue, there could be interference of some kind around there, which could explain why Justin's computer is switching and yours is not getting on sometimes. I still think it is likely to be in issue with your computer though, Justins problem could be pretty isolated, as he is able to at least get on the net in some way, while yours does not. Was just wondering if you're still having problems with the wireless connection. Kinda sucks that I can't just drop by whenever anymore.

It does -_- From what I last heard, they are still having some problems. Mom was supposed to have secured her network though, but I doubt that'll help the actual problem. I think Justin was having some issues as well..? I dunno.
