Yup. My left bottom jaw is on FIRE and pain is shooting up my ear and down my neck. Of course pain killers work about a couple hours, but then wear off well shorter than I am allowed to take them. Whats better is that I have to work for the next three days and the Dentist is closed friday through sunday! YAY! I have found this out due to extreme pain, bad breath (or so I'm told ^_^ and throbbing, aching and slight swelling. I just hope I don't grab an infection from the whole experience as well (although that'd be great to just top it all off). Fun fun. I'll be calling my dentist in the 'morrow, but I doubt he'll be able to do anything till Monday. Great... -_-

Dry socket, huh? When did you get a tooth pulled? I actually got three of my wisdom teeth pulled two weeks ago. Was just like a normal tooth extraction, and I haven't had any pain or anything. So, what'd the dentist office say? Hope you feel better soon.

I got them pulled last Monday. 2 of the 3 pulls only hurt for a day or so, but the bottom left extraction was awful (and still is). My dentist is out of town until tomorrow, so I will be calling him in the morning. I am starting to worry about infection though. I don't know if it's a dry socket to be sure, because there are a lot of conflicting symptoms. For example, dry sockets react to the temperature of food and liquid EXTREMELY, but I don't. The bad breath seemed to be taken care of when I was able to start rinsing my mouth out with warm salt water, and the pain responds well to pain killers. All of which dry sockets are not known to do. However, this pain is worse than when I had my abscessed tooth last year (except then I had a very high fever), and is most likely the worst, most agonizing pain I've ever been in. If not medicated, I can hardly stand up without getting dizzy from the pain. Talking is a nightmare and no position is comfortable AT ALL. When ON the pain killers, the pain is still pretty hardy, but manageable and easy to ignore unless I chew or talk a lot. Still, this is not normal. I should be fine and dandy within 3-5 days, not in huge amounts of pain 6 or 7 days later with ZERO sign of change (no better, no worse). It is SO frustrating cause I have been able to eat pretty much nothing for a weak, and when I can't take feeling completely weak and faint from lack of nutrition, I eat and deal with mass amounts of pain for 6+ hours even when on pain killers. Very frustrating. Less just pray to the good Lord that the dentist has some advice or SOMETHING for me tomorrow.

I think it's probably dry socket but I dunno.. I do know that it should've gotten better a looooong time ago. I have heard of people getting infections from oral surgery though, so maybe it's that. Like if they had to cut into the gums to get a tooth out. Well, let us know what they say.

Actually he said that it looks really nice in there. He couldn't tell if it was a dry socket or not, but he said it sounded like it was either a dry socket, or a tooth adjacent to a pulled that has a small cavity had been beaten to a toothache. He stuffed clove into my socket, which numbed the heck out of my mouth and stayed in there most of the day. WORST TASTE EVER! But it seemed to help. I am officially on zero pain killers and still standing and eating without them. However, it still hurts pretty good, and most likely will for another week or so. I just can't wait until it's over. This has seriously been worse than the abscessed tooth I had last year... I would rather have an infection on my tooth and have a fever for 2 or 3 days and then be fine, rather than a week + of pure, evil, intense, primal PAIN. It felt like an artillery bombardment was tattering my jawbone every time my heart beat, every time my mouth moved, and even more so when I ate. I'll be having nightmares of this for a long long... long time.

I wish I could do or say something to help. Just remember you will have have to go through this again with these teeth. I've had dry socket and to me that's what it sounds like with you. Extreme want to die pain. Anyway, I am so sorry you are going through this. Love you very much

Yeah, it's much better now, but it still hurts pretty good. NO MORE PAIN KILLERS THOUGH! YAY!
I'm not sorry, if anything it has taught me some things, plus it's a good lesson for my kids to learn (they have been pretty worried about me).
My only worry now is infection. My dentist said it looked nice and clean, but still. He never gave me any antibiotics. Although I agree with him as to why, it still worries me lol. I guess I'm just waiting for something ELSE to happen now that I'm somewhat comfortable with it, lol.

There's little signs of infection, and expensive. (I know, weird. A dentist who actually wants me to SAVE money...) He said that the oral syringe he gave me would take care of any infections as long as I use it after eating for a couple weeks. So far it's worked. Apparently I have a mild infection due to my dry socket, but it is pretty small and apparently normal. It's gone down a lot by it's self and with the salt water rising with the syringe.
