.....Wow, just freaking wow. My mind is just blown. I just watched the Haruhi movie. That was seriously one of the best anime films I have ever seen. Was it the best? No, but good god it was awesome. It was infinitely better than any of the TV productions, especially the Endless Eight crap.
I don't want to spoil anything but it's basically like Kyon wakes up one morning and his whole world has changed. Haruhi has completely disappeared and no one seems to have any recollection of her, Koizumi is missing, Mikuru and Nagato are just normal students with no memories of the SOS brigade, Nagato being a normal student actually has EMOTIONS, the psycho chick with the knife is back from the dead. Kyon was always complaining and this is the normal world that he wanted but what now that everything is normal he goes ABSOLUTELY CRAZY and horribly, horribly depressed. Only two bad things I can think about this movie is that it's long for one. It's like 2 hours and 41 minutes, although I personally didn't feel it was horribly paced like some lengthy movies are. The other thing is, I feel it's required to watch or read previous installments. You see, Haruhi is actually adapted from a series of novels. The TV series is like 3 novels, and this movie is the 4th one. It ties directly into the other novels/anime. That whole John Smith thing is directly connected to this movie, along with things like Kyon's Ponytail fetish, the talking cat and some references to Endless Eight and how Nagato had to relive and remember the same day like a thousand times.
But the animation was good, soundtrack was great and the movie dealt with a lot of emotions and had some great scenes. Plus it has Moe Am I cute Uguu~ Nagato.
Justin, I'd definitely recommend watching it when it comes out on DVD or whatever.
