That is what our main drain pipe to our house looks like in two different places. We had the plumber come looks at it last night, and sure enough, we have roots! Now, for those of you who do not know what roots are, they belong to these organisms called Trees. These trees grow from the ground, and under ground, they have tentacle-like branches that dig through just about anything. Including metal pipes. How do we fix this? Right now, I am in the process of digging a 3 foot hole in my front yard. Easy? No, not with roots. I literally am digging with an axe and shovel. Once I dig this hole, Meli's dad is going to install a clean-out pipe, so to plumbers can send some kind of super-weapon to clear out both root clogs. Of course, this is a temporary fix, and we will have to dig up 60+ feet of pipe, which is up to 10 feet under ground (and directly beneath the street). This requires a back hoe (a bulldozer type thing), and lots of PVC plastic piping. Basically, lots and lots of money, lol. Until we can get this all done, Meli has been incredibly resourceful, and has been washing dishes in a tote, and I've been showering in a bucket to catch all the water. We can't flush the toilet very often either, nor can we run the Washer... It may sound stressful, and we want it fixed, but we're optimistic and taking it as a test. Lots of prayer and trust in the Lord for this one. Wish us luck! ^_^

When you say digging up 60+ feet of pipe and getting lots of piping, do you mean you guys are actually going to have to replace your sewer line? Is this something a professional would have to do?

Yeah, at least 60 feet. Meli's dad used to be a plumber, and he has a friend who still works as a plumber who will help as well, so it will be a "pro" job, but it wont be a "official" Rotorooter job. But that will reduce the cost by a huge portion. But yeah, we will have to be the ones who have to do it. We can rent a bulldozer and dig it up ourselves, and replace the pipe. We have to buy everything, but the labor is what costs the most anyway.
