How expensive hospital visits really are. Thankfully I got most all my medical billing stuff taken care of. Mercy Care (AHCCCS) took care of most everything but even though it's been a year since I've had my surgery done, I recently received a bill from the hospital saying I still owed them $500. Made some calls and asked for a detailed bill.. and received a bill a size of a freaking book. Not joking. I looked it over and was just shocked at how much this all just adds up.. My bill was 133 THOUSAND dollars. 133 THOUSAND and that's just for the Hospital. Just for the room, medications and basic tests/services. That's not even factoring in the other departments such as the hospitalist, all the different specialists, the surgery, radiology, emergency room, etc. which are all billed separately. Just blows my mind.

Jay, Justin received bills also, even though he was on AHCCCS. I called the hospital and told them to bill AHCCCS and they did. We also got a bill from JohnsHopkins for the slide tests and called they billed St. Joes who then billed AHCCCS. All of it was taken care of. Make the calls, don't pay. You may have to call MercyCare though. Let me know if I can help.

Wow... Seriously, 133,000 is more than a decent sized house! It's unbelievable how much this stuff costs. When I had my ablation, I was only there for a single night, and it cost almost 3,000 dollars for a single night/operation. And that is just out of pocket (we're still paying on that!) I'm pretty sure it was a heck of a lot more too... Can't remember, I try to put that stuff out of my memory. When I went to the ER last summer due to my mega dizzy spell, it was almost 1,000 dollars, and I was there for 2 hours! Seriously something wrong here... Almost liking the idea of the Obama socialist medical care right about now... But then I realize I'd be paying for the millions of dollars spent on illegal immigrants bills and the millions of people who are rich enough to pay for themselves...

Did they do anything when you were in the ER for your dizzy spell? Ran some blood work I assume? I dunno man.. after actually experiencing the medical system first hand, it's like I now realize how messed up it really is. Not gonna lie though, I did expect my hospital bills to be a lot and at the time I didn't think I was going to be able to get much of any financial assistance but I didn't care. Just wanted my problem solved because I felt like my life was falling apart.

Yeah, they ran blood and a EKG for my heart problem. Nothing major though, they didn't want me to leave the hospital for a couple hours though.
You know, I am doing a bit of research and finding how much crap a lot of this stuff is. Medication is worse than PC operating systems. Costs about 10 cents a pill to manufacture, then you can turn around and sell it for 5 bucks a pill. College is another one. Tuition in America has increased 8 fold in the past 20 years, and sadly, the value of a college degree has dropped by half. Gone are the days were a college education will secure you a good job and a easy life.
