Been sorta working on my PS3 collection.. Got Unreal Tournament 3 and Resident Evil 5 and I also got a Bluetooth mic so I can chat with Jon while we're playing. They both not only have online co-op but splitscreen co-op as well so I'll have to bring them over to Justin's some time. UT3, while inferior to the original UT and UT2k4, isn't a bad game at all and I don't understand why it receives so much hate. Plus it was cheap, I only picked it up for $8. Resident Evil 5 is okay solo but has really really fun multiplayer. Also makes me really nostalgic and miss the now deceased survival horror genre, even though it was more Justin's or Josh's thing.

I've been working on my PS3 collection to.... in my head.
I'm glad you think UT3 isn't a bad game, Corey bought it and said it was stupid, but I had always thought it looked awesome from the videos.
Yeah, the survival/horror genre is pretty much dead. Although I think I can speak for most of the fans when I say that it got old pretty quick. I personally don't like the genre very much any more, and while I love games with some good puzzles and such, it turned into just that; a puzzle game that you can walk around in. I do miss playing SH2 though, that game is still one of the most amazingly well done games ever imo.

The only real major problem I think with UT3 is that it sacrificed content for better graphics as the game has less game types/maps/skins as the other Unreal games. I did find it interesting that you can actually download skins, mods and stuff for the PS3 version.. not use to being able to do that with FPS games on consoles. As for Corey not enjoying it, a lot of gamers are leaning towards realism/war FPS games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc. and I'm sure he's probably part of that crowd. Games like Unreal Tournament or Time Splitters are arcade-style FPS games and have sort of become a thing of the past and like most of everything else has faded out this gen. Though, there's talks of possibly coming out with a new Time Splitters.. Mmmmm Delicious next gen Timesplitters. Oh god, that would be so delicious. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timesplitters_4

I broke out Soul Caliber 3 today (for that matter, I finally plugged in my PS2 for the first time in months). Man I suck at that game now (arguably more so than I did before I stopped). I was really surprised to find how awesome the graphics are. I mean, I remember the lighting and textures being good, but man. I only played for about 30 minutes, and even made a character who rocks, but I had lots of fun re-learning the game. Still, I can only beat normal 4 out of 5 times. Awesome game though, makes me want to get a PS3 just to play the new SC game.

I definitely miss having random character creation battles with you guys. Was thinking of picking up a few more PS3 games with my tax return but I've been watching cheapassgamer.com and waiting for games to be on sale. Eventually I do want to pick up Valkyria Chronicles, Resonance of Fate (delicious Tri-Ace RPG), maybe Demon's Souls and maybe Star Ocean 4 if I can find it for $20~ Like I mentioned I did order Marvel vs Capcom 3. Looks really fun. www.gametrailers.com/video/zero-trailer-marvel-vs/707500www.gametrailers.com/video/nycc-10-marvel-vs/705873

My favorite part was when Zero owned Ironman... Is that Arther guy from Super Ghouls and Ghosts? THAT"S AWESOME! Talk about bringing an awesome game back from the dead!

Ok, I picked up some jRPGs since they were on sale.. First off, Resonance of Fate is really awesome. It does have it's flaws but the gameplay is fun and challenging, I love the main characters and I really like the style and the whole steam punk theme. I guess not a whole lot goes on as far as an actual plot goes, but there's a lot of character. www.gametrailers.com/video/review-resonance-of/63360I was also hesitant to pick up this one but I just got it in the mail today and now I'm really hyped up to finally play it.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-KUB7L6DTEwww.youtube.com/watch?v=3B96asG2ltMMmmmm.. yeeeeeeeesss.. Just hope the game isn't as buggy as people claim it is. Also, Tales of Graces F for PS3 was announced for English localization. Which I guess is the first Tales of game we've had in years. I'll probably get it whenever it comes out. No word on if the original Wii version is coming out too.. sucks 'cause I'm sure Justin would probably be interested in playing it. =/

From what I hear, the PS3 version fixes a lot of the bugs... But that's hear-say. SO3 was kinda buggy for me, but it didn't take away from the experience. SO4 does get me feeling all warm inside, but I still think they probably could have ended with SO3. I mean, not that I disagree with them making a new one, but I worry that the SO series will become like Final Fantasy.
That Resonance of Fate looks AWESOME!!! While the lack of a main story kinda puts me off, the characters do sound like they have a little added depth to them, and seem like a character driven game like SO2, rather than focusing on neat plot lines. The style is really sweet though, makes me wanna draw. ^_^
Have fun and let me know how SO4 is!

Ok, I'm like 25 or so hours into Star Ocean 4.. I don't get it.. I just don't get it.. Why is this game hated by so many? WHY? WHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYY? I think the battle system is the best the Star Ocean series has to offer. Item creation is infinitely better than it was in Star Ocean 3. I absolutely love pretty much all the characters. They are very anime-isque, which I understand can turn people off but you know.. that's just how the Star Ocean games are. Or at least the classic Star Ocean games. Kinda like how the Star Ocean 2 cast has all their little quirks. I also love how diverse the cast is.. what I mean is, everyone comes from different planets and they actually do look like they come from different planets. Unlike Star Ocean 3. Not to hate on Star Ocean 3, because I really did like the game, but after having played the other games I honestly feel like it's the odd ball.. Star Ocean 4, on the other hand, I feel like captures the true spirit of the Star Ocean games. Not just because of the characters having some personality but the whole setting.. like all the different races and worlds, which didn't really take much part in neither Star Ocean 2 or 3, and the whole Star Trek-like exploration. (in fact, the beginning of Star Ocean 4 is essentially Star Trek: The RPG) There's also how this game ties into the other games.. it's actually a prequel and there aren't just references but actual sub plots tying it into the other games. But there are some little cool things like using a bunch of music tracks from the old Star Ocean games: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzO0EzqFKb8www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnD-o5FI4zowww.youtube.com/watch?v=w_oIhDKmeW4www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dak77dhnGFUwww.youtube.com/watch?v=_HI1asYQrNUwww.youtube.com/watch?v=xYXsrkUGzFISo yeah, I'm really enjoying this game. It's not without it's flaws, however.. For one, the english voice acting is absolutely HORRIBLE. Luckily with the PS3 version I can change it to Japanese but I guess owners of the original 360 version didn't even have this option. Fields are flippin' huge and sometimes it seems like it takes forever for your character to get anywhere.. you also have to constantly mash the square button, which makes your character dash, so you can get to places faster.. but it just seems pointless. Lack of save points is really annoying. Like there's some dungeons I'll be exploring for hours before I find a save point which sucks because.. Yeah, the game is bugged. Almost all Tri-Ace games are, unfortunately. Some bugs are fine but when I say bugs I mean bugs where the game randomly and completely locks up during a battle and you have to restart your system and lose all progress. It's Star Ocean 2 all over again. ;_; Luckily it doesn't happen TOO often, though. Edge pulls a Luke from Tales of Abyss and becomes emo for 5 hours of the game.. got pretty annoying. Cool game, though. I just don't understand why everyone hates on it.

I also forgot to mention that it's not like the first two Star Ocean games in that you can't pick which characters to take with you, everyone is just given to you just like in the third game. I'm sure you probably guessed that, though.

Wow.. after hearing Stab the Sword of Justice, my heart began pumping good and got a overwhelming urge to play SO2 again... Man that brings back memories.
You know... The more I think of it, the more I REALLY want SO4. I am glad you think it's better than SO3 in that it better captures the classic feel. I did enjoy SO3, but it was more of a fun game, rather than a good one (I think there's a difference). Could the fact that SO4 is more like the classics be the reason for all the hate? I mean, SO1 and 2 were almost completely unknown games until SO3 came out.
It's good to hear the game is good though. I was actually a bit worried, and I am glad the PS3 version has Japanese voices. I heard the English ones, and they would have kept me from buying the game by themselves.
By emo, are we talking Cloud in FF7 emo? Or worse? And does the emo at least end with a growth in character/plot?
Awesome "review" though. And thanks. I now want to blow my tax money on a PS3 and SO4.

Oh, I've been playing Civ V a lot lately. I am almost completed with my first game, which has taken me 19 hours thus far, and I still have about 50 turns left. I REALLY enjoy the game. While Civ V seems pretty watered down compare to the older ones, I think it's epic and easily one of the best games out there.
I started at 4000BC as the Americans. I conquered all of Europe by 1500BC, and eventually all of South America and most of Australia. I had almost 100 years of war with the Ottoman Empire, and by about 1000AD, I had most of the world declare war on me because I was doing so much better than they were. It's about 2030AD now, and the game ends at 2100AD. I am just starting to build the first faster-than-light space ship to fly to Alpha Centari (tech victory), and I am about 5 policies away from a Cultural victory, but I don't think I'll get either in time.
Anyway, some of the aspects I love about the game is the fact that you can re-write history on a level of detail that I wouldn't have thought possible. Again, Civ 5 is very watered down compare to older games, but I love the fact that France actually discovered the Americas first, or that America built the Pyramids, or the fact that World War 1 started in the 1700s, and there has yet to be a second. It's also a lot of fun to be able to have specific "great people" be born in the wrong time to the wrong civ. I had Tomas Edison born in America around 500BC! Awesome! Computers weren't invented until 2001, but the nuke was developed by 1890. I guess the game has a lot more of a fun factor for me because I love history so much, and really get a kick out of seeing things so similar to history, yet slightly different. Then, seeing those differences play out.
It does have some draw backs though, as I hope will not be there in 4. The diplomacy is a joke. You can have a trade agreement with another Civ for 3000 years, protect them through 2 wars and fulfill their peoples needs. BUT, as soon as you need help, they get mad at you and denounce you. WHAT!? HOW!? Of course, I killed them to the point of no return, and they greatly regretted it, but the diplomacy seems a bit too whimsical and random, with no real relationship ever being established. Also, I really dislike the terrain limitations. Planes apparently cannot fly over mountains... I can have satellites orbiting the earth, super laser giant robots, and be able to travel on railroads 10 hexes in a turn, but a air craft moving over a mountain? Nope.
Anyway, again, great game. Now, I need to go test 4, then go to bed.
